Mohbad Musical Journey

MohBad’s musical journey took flight in 2019 when he signed with Marlian Records, a label associated with the influential Nigerian artist, Naira Marley. This partnership would prove instrumental in shaping MohBad’s career. His debut album, “Light,” released in late 2020, gained significant attention, particularly due to the viral hit “Ponmo,” which featured Naira Marley and Lil Kesh.

The success of “Light” was just the beginning. In 2021, MohBad continued to make waves in the music industry. He was nominated five times for The Beatz Awards in the same year, a testament to his rising prominence. His inclusion in Audiomack’s list of the top 21 Afrobeat artists of 2021 further solidified his position as a force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian music scene.

In 2022, MohBad released the song “KPK (Ko Por Ke)” in collaboration with producer Rexxie. This track not only became a massive hit but also garnered three nominations at The Headies Awards 2022, showcasing MohBad’s impact on the industry.

A Shift inMohbad’s Career

As MohBad’s career soared, he decided to take control of his destiny. In June 2023, he made a pivotal move by releasing his EP titled “Blessed” under his own label, Imolenization. This project featured collaborations with fellow Nigerian artists Zlatan and Bella Shmurda, as well as the talents of producers Niphkeys and Timi Jay. The EP immediately reached the number one spot on Apple Music in Nigeria, marking a triumph for the artist’s independent journey.

MohBad’s career was not without its share of controversies. In February 2022, he, along with fellow artists Zinoleesky and others, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for the possession of illegal substances. This incident, which involved allegations of mistreatment by the authorities, garnered significant media attention.

Additionally, MohBad’s departure from Marlian Records in October 2022 led to accusations of assault against his former manager, Naira Marley. He claimed that Naira Marley ordered an attack on him after he decided to hire a different manager for his career. This incident further highlighted the complex dynamics within the music industry.

Mohbad’s Tragic End

The music industry and fans were left in shock when, on September 12, 2023, news broke of MohBad’s passing at the age of 27. He had been undergoing treatment for an infection when he tragically succumbed to it. This unexpected loss sent shockwaves through the Nigerian music community and beyond.
