Nigeria’s film industry, Nollywood, is mourning the loss of one of its talented actors, Mr. John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, following a tragic incident on the set of a movie.

The incident occurred on the 10th of April 2024 at the waterside of River Niger Cable point Asaba, where the cast and crew were shooting a film titled “The Other Side of Life,” produced by Adamma Luke.

The boat mishap not only claimed the life of Junior Pope but also resulted in the loss of four other crew members. The Guild’s leadership has swiftly responded to the tragedy by implementing several decisions.

Firstly, all film productions involving riverine areas and boat riding have been suspended indefinitely. Additionally, there will be no shoots on any location nationwide on the 11th of April 2024.

Furthermore, the film “The Other Side of Life” has been suspended indefinitely, and no actor is permitted to work with Adamma Luke as a producer until further notice.

The Guild expresses its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those affected by this tragic incident. Efforts are underway to locate the bodies of the remaining persons involved, and the Guild hopes for their souls to rest in peace.

In light of these developments, it’s evident that safety measures on film sets, particularly those involving hazardous conditions like water scenes, need to be rigorously enforced to prevent such tragedies in the future.

The National President of the Guild, Dr. Ejezie Emeka Rollas MON, has urged for unity and support within the industry during this difficult time. Nollywood has lost a rising star in Junior Pope, and his absence will be deeply felt by colleagues and fans alike.
