Probe into Missing Intestine by Unqualified Lagos Surgeon

Boy with missing intestine after surgery

Lagos, September 22, 2023 – The Lagos State House of Assembly has made a shocking revelation regarding the disappearance of 12-year-old Adebola Akin-Bright’s small intestine during surgery. According to their findings, the doctor responsible for the operation was not qualified for the procedure.

The announcement came during a session led by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on September 21, 2023, where the House directed the Clerk, Olalekan Onafeko, to contact the State Police Command to initiate the arrest of Dr. Abayomi Baiyewu. Dr. Baiyewu was in charge of the surgery at Obitoks Hospital in the Alimosho area of Lagos.

The tragic incident occurred on September 19, when Adebola passed away shortly after the Lagos State House of Assembly requested Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s assistance in seeking treatment abroad.

Chairman of the Lagos Assembly ad-hoc committee, Noheem Adams, who was tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding Adebola Akin-Bright’s missing small intestine, revealed that Dr. Baiyewu admitted during the probe that he lacked the necessary qualifications as a surgeon. Instead, he relied solely on his experience as a medical doctor.

Furthermore, Dr. Baiyewu confessed that he did not conduct any medical examinations on the young patient before performing the initial surgery himself. Instead, he depended on a report from another hospital where the patient had previously been treated.”
