In a recent military operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has successfully carried out airstrikes, targeting terrorist enclaves in both Borno and Zamfara states.
The mission, conducted by the Air Components of Operations Hadin Kai and Hadarin Daji, resulted in the elimination of numerous terrorists and the destruction of their vehicles.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of Public Relations and Information for the NAF, released an official statement on Sunday, providing details of the successful operations. According to Gabkwet, the NAF’s air component initiated an air interdiction mission in the early hours of Saturday at a newly identified hideout of terrorists in the Bukar Meram area near Lake Chad in Borno.
The airstrikes were deemed necessary due to intelligence reports indicating the relocation of terrorists from Suwa to the Bukar Meram region. The move was suspected to be a precursor to potential attacks on ground troops and innocent civilians. Consequently, the NAF launched air strikes on the Bukar Meram location, resulting in the neutralization of numerous terrorists. Furthermore, the strikes led to the destruction of over 40 motorcycles and six gun trucks used by the terrorists.
Additionally, a similar operation was carried out on October 11 by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji in the Sangeko area of Maru Local Government in Zamfara. The operation targeted a convoy of terrorists traveling on approximately 70 motorcycles along the road from Kabaro towards Sangeko. During the engagement, a significant number of terrorists were neutralized, their motorcycles were destroyed, and others were injured.
Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, the Chief of the Air Staff, expressed his appreciation for the professionalism and dedication displayed by the Air Components during these successful missions. He commended their unwavering support to the ground troops and emphasized the importance of maintaining focus and dedication to ensure the safety and confidence of Nigerian citizens.
These operations signify the NAF’s continued commitment to countering terrorism and ensuring the security of the nation’s citizens.
