Obosi Union Honors Ifeoma Amuta, Chidioka, Cubana, Others

The Obosi Development Union (ODU), Women’s Wing, Enugu Branch, recently bestowed the prestigious title of “Ada Di Ora Nma of Obosi” upon the accomplished journalist Comrade Dame Ifeoma Amuta.

This recognition was in acknowledgment of her substantial contributions to the growth and advancement of the Obosi community.

Comrade Amuta shared this esteemed award with her Majesty Ezenwanyi Kosisochukwu Iweka and Anambra State’s Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye (Okaa Omee Obosi), for their exceptional efforts in restoring peace to the Obosi Community.

Comrade Amuta, a News Manager at the Federal Radio Cooperation of Nigeria and a knight of St. Mary’s in the Anglican Diocese of Arochukwu/Ohaofia, is renowned for her dedicated work in empowering women through rural awareness campaigns.

Throughout her career, she has held various prominent positions, including Vice Chairperson of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in Enugu State, Assistant Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), and PRO NLC Women Committee Enugu, among others. She has consistently advocated for improved conditions for women journalists as the Chairperson of NAWOJ and has actively promoted the welfare of journalists in Enugu, serving as Secretary of the Union to ensure quality representation of NUJ at the state level.

Dame Amuta expressed her gratitude upon receiving the award, emphasizing how it would motivate her to contribute even more towards Obosi’s socio-economic growth, infrastructure development, and environmental sustainability.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Felicia Ononye, the President of Obosi Development Union, Women’s Wing, Enugu Branch, stressed the importance of recognizing individuals who have excelled in their respective fields and made significant contributions to Obosi’s development. She also called upon the sons and daughters of Obosi to support the union’s scholarship and empowerment projects, procure a bus and generator, and furnish its town hall in Enugu.

AMB/Dr. Nnenna Oraedu, Chairperson of the Award and Fund Raising Committee, reiterated that the event aimed to honor accomplished individuals who have played a vital role in human capital development and the overall progress of the Obosi Ukwala Kingdom.

Another notable recipient of the award was Prof. Charles Onochie (JP), Former Vice Chancellor of Renaissance University, who highlighted the urgent need for an improved education system in the community and expressed his joy at being honored.

Dr. Chinwe Edith Onochie, who received the Award of Excellence, praised ODU as a unifying force for Obosi natives and a platform for contributing to the advancement of Obosi at home and abroad.

The event also recognized other honorees for their roles in promoting sustainable development in Obosi, including Chief Alex Chukwura, Chief Osita Chidioka, Sir Prince Vincent Ononye, Prof. Onyire Nnamdi Benson, and the late Lady Florence Onochie.
