A credit officer at a microfinance bank, Esther Hamidu, was taken into custody by the Ogun State Police Command under suspicion of fleeing with approximately N1.97 million in contributions collected from customers.

According to reports by PUNCH Metro, Hamidu vanished with the funds contributed by the bank’s customers during the period from March to December 2023.

Upon realizing that the contributions had not been forwarded, a branch manager in Abeokuta, the state capital, reported the matter to the police. Despite multiple attempts to compel the suspect to return the contributions, Hamidu managed to evade capture, disappearing despite police efforts.

However, an anonymous source within the state police command revealed that the suspect had been apprehended.
