National President of the Nigeria Union of Local government Employees, NULGE, Comrade Ambali Olatunji has described the Bill at the Senate seeking to delist local government from the 1999 constitution as wicked, devilish and anti people.
Comrade Olatunji made this known in Enugu while speaking on the bill adding that scrapping local government system will plunge more Nigerians into poverty, unemployment and misery.
Olatunji draw attention of the senate in the impunity, extortion and corruption going on in the banking sector, arguing that instead of the senate to look inwardly and enact laws capable to uplift the people; they are busy chasing laws that will throw the nation into crisis.

“Instead of the national Assembly to seat down and pass bills that will promote the welfare of the Nigerians, generate employment, and create wealth; rather they are busy pursuing two notorious bills. It is either decentralization of minimum wage to make sure workers become poorer by the house of representatives or plan to kill local government system by the Senate. We have not gotten it bad by the national Assembly, he exclaimed”
“We used to know the National Assembly to be people driven, people centered and people concerned. But we never knew where we missed it, and we called on the national Assembly to retrace their steps for the interest of democracy and Nigerian people and if that fail; strike will be the next option”
“It is better we strike the system than allow them to destroy us. Because they are briefed of ideas, they don’t know how to govern or create wealth and all they want to do is to increase pains; create a diversionary measure, so Nigeria will not be organized to hold them accountable. Let me remind them that 2023 is around the corner and I assure you, we will hold them accountable in whatever they do”.

Meanwhile, NULGE National Vice President, South East, Patrick Igwe and Enugu state Chairman of the Union, Kenneth Ugwueze wonder why a serving senator want to destroy the Local government system at this moment in Nigeria.
Patrick Igwe urged all Local Government emplotees across the country to pray against those who want to disengage them, and ruin their lives. On the other hand, Kenneth Ugwueze expressed surprise that at the moment some people are clamoring for Local government autonomy, and need for grass root based governance; someone is thinking otherwise.
According to the National President of NULGE, the Bill to scrape Local Government from the 1999 constitution has secretly passed the first and second reading at the senate.
