Flight operations at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 have been rerouted to the D wing following a fire outbreak, as confirmed by the Federal Airport Authority.
Engineers swiftly cut off power to the entire E wing to combat the fire, which ignited around 5:29 am on Thursday, originating from the E54 bridge, causing alarm among airport personnel and travelers.
FAAN, along with the Airport Rescue and Firefighting Services team, managed to restore order after a brief period of chaos.
In a statement by Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, it was revealed that the fire, suspected to have stemmed from electrical sparks, was contained by 06:41 hrs. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause.
Efforts to clear smoke from the premises are underway while flight operations at Terminal 1 are temporarily shifted to the D Wing. Further updates will be provided shortly.
