Enugu State Government Distributes Relief Materials To People With Disabilities

The items were distributed at the level of three senatorial zones through Disability Support Forum for Gburugburu and the state Association of people with disabilities.

While addressing the media, the Representative of Persons with disabilities at the state stirring committee on Open Governance Partnership, Samuel Obiefuna appreciated Enugu state government for the gesture and described their members as the most effected in the covid19 pandemic.

Samuel Obiefuna noted that the items donated by the state government for the physically challenged persons include bags of rice, millet, instant noodles and drinks etc

He added that all the persons with disabilities in Enugu state across the seventeen local government areas were expected to benefit from the palliative measures.

In his contributions, Coordinator, Disability Support Forum for Gburugbu, Chuka Eze said the gesture exhibited by the Enugu state government will remain remarkable in the lives of their members.

Chuka Eze maintained that physically challenged persons are often forgotten in a moment of crisis like this and commended Enugu state government for remembering the poorest people in the state.

Also, President, the state physically challenged persons’ organizations, Adaku Udeh as well as other beneficiaries believe that the food stocks shared to their members will go a long way in cushioning the impact of the covid19 lock down.

Adaku Udeh added that women and especially those with disabilities are more affected. Udeh believe that for the fact that some of them are not gainfully employed, they depend largely on their relations and goodwill for survival.

Meanwhile, former transition chairman of Udenu Local government area, Onyekachi Ugwu who monitored the exercise as well as Enugu state focal person on open Government partnership (OGP), Doctor Kingsley Tochi Udeh acknowledged that persons with disabilities were mainly affected with lockdown.

Doctor Kingsley Udeh vulnerability of the physically challenged made the state government to see them as primary beneficiaries of the palliative measures.
