Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, has called upon both Generating Companies (GenCos) and Distribution Companies (DisCos) to enhance their performance in order to improve the electricity supply in the country.

The appeal was made during a meeting in Abuja with the management teams of GenCos and DisCos, with the goal of addressing the challenges facing the power sector, as disclosed by Bolaji Tunji, the Special Adviser for Strategic Communication and Media Relations to the minister.

Adelabu emphasized the significance of finding long-lasting solutions to the problems affecting the country’s economic growth and development due to issues in the power sector. The minister expressed that addressing the challenges in the power sector is vital to achieving the desired economic growth and industrial development outlined in President Bola Tinubu’s inaugural speech. Adelabu called on all stakeholders to collaborate in making the power industry a success, highlighting that no single entity can carry out the required work alone. He urged the operators to work together and deliver on their responsibilities, as power is a critical driver of economic growth.

Adelabu sought the support of the stakeholders to move beyond theory and implement practical solutions to the issues at hand. He emphasized that the cooperation of managing directors of GenCos and DisCos nationwide would significantly impact the sector. The minister stressed the importance of delivering and sustaining electricity supply to end users, including schools, households, small businesses, and industries. Adelabu expressed the hope that making a substantial impact in the power sector within the next few years would be highly fulfilling.
