Breaking: Dr. Monday Igwe Suspended AS MD, FNH, Enugu

Dr. Monday Igwe

In a significant development, the Federal Ministry of Health has suspended Dr. Monday Igwe, the embattled Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu. The suspension comes in the wake of various allegations surrounding Dr. Igwe, though it remains unclear whether these allegations directly prompted the action.

A reliable source within the Ministry revealed that Dr. Igwe’s suspension is a result of actions deemed to be in violation of the 2021 Revised Public Service Rules (PSR) 100402 and 100301. The decision to suspend him was communicated through a letter dated September 20, 2023, signed by Daloba Paul Edward, Deputy Director (APD), acting on behalf of the Honourable Coordinating Minister.

Confirming the suspension, the anonymous source stated, “Igwe has been suspended, that I can confirm to you authoritatively. In the letter, the Medical Director was directed to hand over all official matters in his office to the most senior officer in the hospital.”

Despite attempts to reach Dr. Igwe for confirmation, his mobile line remained switched off, adding an air of mystery to the unfolding situation. However, a senior staff member within the hospital’s management corroborated the news, revealing that Dr. Igwe has indeed been asked to step aside temporarily.

“While I might not possess the intricate details of the situation, our MD has been suspended,” the anonymous staff member disclosed. “Our MD has handed over responsibilities to the Head of Clinical Services, Dr. N. N. Unaogu,” indicating a temporary shift in leadership within the hospital. The circumstances surrounding Dr. Igwe’s suspension continue to raise questions, as stakeholders await further clarification on the allegations and the subsequent course of action.
