A 61-year-old man, Famakinwa Ajayi, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly impregnating a 16-year-old girl.
The suspect, who claimed to be a pastor, was said to have deflowered the victim at his house at Ayede Ogbese town, in the Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
Parading the suspect at the command headquarters in Akure, on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami, said the victim reported the matter to the police in the town.
She noted that after being arrested, the suspect confessed to sleeping with her once in his living room.
Odunlami said, “The victim stated further that the suspect was the one who deflowered her in his house and took her to a market square at night, where he had carnal knowledge of her under the pretext of taking her for spiritual deliverance.”
While speaking to journalists, the suspect denied the allegation, saying he was forced to implicate himself.
He stated, “I didn’t rape her; but when I was threatened by the police that if I failed to confess I might be sent to a custodial centre, that was why I had to dance to their tune.
“I am ready to take care of the girl, including the pregnancy. I even asked them if a DNA test could be done to ascertain if I was the owner of the child. It was five days ago that the girl came to me that she was pregnant for me.
“I didn’t take her to the market at night, and I didn’t sleep with her. But all I am saying is that I am ready to accept the baby and the mother.”
Also paraded was 23-year-old Ola Omogunwa, who was arrested for allegedly robbing and raping his victim.
“The suspect was arrested based on intelligence. One phone, a necklace and other valuables belonging to the victim were recovered from him,” the PPRO stated.
She said the suspects would soon be charged to court.
