Executive Director , Ada Oji Initiative (AOI), Isamade Anita Adaeze, has called on Enugu State Government, Senators, Federal Reps, State Reps, Local Government Chairmen, Stakeholders, NGO’s and Concerned citizens to help the girl child with free sanitary pads as a palliative gifts, while the country extend the lockdown for covid19 pandemic.
Isamade Anita Adaeze made this known while looking at how the lockdown order affects every teenage girl in Nigeria. She said the girls face great challenge in terms of menstrual hygiene and sanitation, emphasizing that the difficulties posted on them by the inability to afford sanitary pads as well as cultural taboos around Menstruation remain unaddressed.
In her words, “the girl child needs special attention and care, provision of pad is critical now. Have you sat down to think of the girl that has to hawk goods in the market or run errands in the market before she can get money to buy pad?”
“Have you thought of the Sales girl in our markets that is unemployed now because of this pandemic? How can she afford for pad now at this critical time?”
“As an advocate for better life for our girls, I want the State Government, Senators, Federal Reps, State Reps, Local Government Chairmen, Stakeholders, Philanthropists, to consider pad as part of palliative items. It calls for urgent attention”.
“Statistics have it that 70% of reproductive infection are caused by poor menstrual hygiene, some of our girls wear their sanitary towels for a longer time than expected, not because they enjoy it but just because they don’t have enough pads, so they manage the little they have and that makes them prone to some infection”.
“I want to Commend Nwa- Nsukka Girl Child Movement, Town Crier Initiative, Heroein, Obiajulu Princess Ugwu and other NGO’s for job well done so far on the Girl Child Campaign for good menstrual hygiene and also plead that we think of Pad as part of palliative in this critical time”.

Meanwhile, Ada Oji Initiative sole vision is to create, develop and integrate communities in which women and girls realize their full potentials, while they are committed to fostering sustainable economic development, empowerment and independence for vulnerable women and girls in the rural areas.
