Senate to Screen CBN Governor Nominee

SENATE

The Senate is set to conduct a thorough evaluation of Olayemi Michael Cardoso, the former Chairman of the Board of Citi Bank Nigeria, for the coveted position of Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This screening is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, September 26th, following the Senate’s return from its annual recess.

In addition to Cardoso, the Senate will also scrutinize four nominees earmarked for the roles of Deputy Governors at the CBN. These individuals will work in tandem with Cardoso to oversee the operations of the apex bank over the next five years. The nominees to be screened alongside Cardoso are Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.

Furthermore, the Senate has planned to evaluate ministerial nominees, Jamila Bio Ibrahim and Ayodele Olawande, designated respectively as Minister of Youth and Minister of State for Youth, on October 3rd.

This nomination and screening process stems from President Tinubu’s approval, which occurred on September 15th. The President nominated Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and likewise proposed the appointment of four Deputy Governors, each with a five-year term, pending confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
