Enugu, October 29, 2023 – In a commendable display of swift action and collaborative efforts, Enugu State Police Command, in conjunction with the Neighborhood Watch Group, has successfully dismantled a child stealing syndicate, leading to the arrest of a 21-year-old suspect, Ifeanyi Omeke.
The incident unfolded in Igogoro Village, located within the Enugu-Ezike community of Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area, on October 27, 2023, at approximately 1:30 p.m.
The apprehended suspect, Ifeanyi Omeke, was taken into custody after attempting to abscond with a one-year and three-month-old girl child from a residence in the said community.
In a startling revelation, Omeke confessed to his role in the crime, divulging that he had been conscripted by associates at large to abduct children for ritualistic and other nefarious purposes.
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, has wasted no time in taking decisive action. He has promptly directed the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for a thorough and comprehensive investigation. The ultimate goal is to uncover the identity of the other members of this criminal syndicate, effect their arrest, and ensure they face prosecution in accordance with the law.
