NFF Board Meeting Today; Suspension of International duties of Some National Teams looms

0

Some of the Nigeria national football teams may be the first to suffer the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic as they are likely to be dropped from international events in the coming year.

The coronavirus pandemic has disrupted economic activities globally, leading to a frightening slump in the price of oil, which is the mainstay of the Nigerian economy.

According to the reports from the Sunday Dankaro House secretariat of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) which has revealed that paucity of funds may lead the federation into taking such a difficult decision of suspending some national teams from international duties.

Recall that AITEO has a N2.5bn 5-year ultimate partnership contract with NFF reached in April 2017, which is valued at N500mn per annum. But fear in the secretariat now is that the slump in oil price could lead to a review of that deal.

For years, the embarrassment of owing national team coaches wages have hung on a knife edge around the neck of the NFF officials. Presently, Nigeria has 11 national football teams for both the male and female teams, and it’s against this backdrop that the board meeting is holding today in Abuja.
