In light of the upcoming by-elections scheduled by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in certain regions of Enugu State on Saturday, February 3, 2024, the Enugu State government has decided to defer the promotion examination originally slated for the same day. Mr. Robinson Odo mni, the Chairman of the State Civil Service Commission, officially announced the postponement on Friday from his office in Enugu.

Chairman Odo clarified that the interview session for workers eligible for promotion would proceed as planned, as it does not coincide with the by-elections. However, the written examination has been rescheduled, and the new date set is Saturday, February 10, 2024.

Expressing regret over the necessary adjustment, Chairman Odo encouraged civil servants and other workers in the state to seize the opportunity to cast their votes for candidates who align with the best interests of the state, emphasizing the importance of bringing good governance to the people.

In his statement, Chairman Odo said, “We have just postponed the Civil Service Commission Examination, known as the promotion examination for workers in Enugu State, initially scheduled to hold tomorrow for two reasons; to allow the peaceful conduct of the by-elections in some parts of our state as slated by INEC, and to also afford workers the opportunity to exercise their franchise.”

He continued, “The new date for the conduct of the promotion examination is now 10th February 2024, Saturday. However, the interview exercise will continue as the date does not in any way clash with the elections.”

Concluding his address, Chairman Odo urged workers to conduct themselves responsibly, avoid any form of violence, and cast their votes for candidates whose interests align with the overall welfare of the people. The Enugu State government remains committed to ensuring a smooth democratic process during the by-elections while prioritizing the professional growth and development of its workforce.
