Why INEC Adjourned Bayelsa Election Results Collation to Monday

INEC In Bayelsa State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Bayelsa State has adjourned the collation of election results for the remaining two local government areas to noon on Monday. The outstanding areas include Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs.

The decision to adjourn was announced by Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, the Head of Department of Voter Education and Publicity for INEC in Bayelsa State. The announcement came after a reconvened session at 7 pm on Sunday, where challenges in the coalition of results from some units and wards in the two local government areas were discussed.

Out of the eight local government areas in the state, results for six have been officially announced. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secured victories in five local government areas, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious in one.

The delay in the collation process underscores the significance of the results from Brass and Southern Ijaw LGAs, which are yet to be disclosed. As Bayelsa residents eagerly await the final outcome, the adjournment provides additional time for INEC officials to address and overcome the challenges encountered in the coalition process.

The electoral atmosphere remains charged as political stakeholders and the public anticipate the final declaration of results, which will determine the overall outcome of the elections in Bayelsa State. The resumption of the collation process on Monday is expected to bring clarity and transparency to the remaining local government areas’ results.
