Mexico 2 vs 0 Ghana

In an international friendly match, the Black Stars of Ghana faced a tough challenge against Mexico’s El Tri, ultimately succumbing to a 2-0 defeat. This marked the first of two international friendlies for Ghana, who are currently on a tour of the United States as part of their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, set to commence in November.

The four-time African champions made a promising start to the game, launching early attacks. However, Mexico gradually gained dominance over the match from the 25th minute onwards. The breakthrough moment came in the 57th minute when PSV Eindhoven star Hirving Lozano scored the opening goal for Mexico, putting them in the lead.

El Tri didn’t stop there, extending their lead in the 72nd minute through Atuna, who capitalized on a counter-attack opportunity. Ghana struggled to break through Mexico’s high defensive line, and Atuna’s goal in the 72nd minute effectively sealed victory for the Mexican team.

This defeat marks Ghana’s fourth consecutive loss to Mexico’s El Tri, with an aggregate scoreline of 6-1. Notably, Ghana was unable to record a single shot on target during the match.

With this friendly behind them, Ghana will now shift their focus to their upcoming second friendly match against the United States, which is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Nashville, Tennessee. The Black Stars will aim to bounce back and improve their performance in the next fixture.
