Rangers Dominate Bayelsa United to Secure Top Spot

Enugu Rangers

Rangers International F.C, known as the ‘Flying Antelopes,’ delivered a commanding performance against Bayelsa United F.C with a decisive 3-0 victory in their NPFL 2023/2024 matchday 33 clash at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu on Sunday, May 26, 2024.

Under the guidance of coach Fidelis Ilechukwu, Rangers never allowed Bayelsa United, led by coach Meremu Okara, to find their rhythm. The attacking prowess of Okorie Chiedozie and Godwin Obaje, bolstered by a strong midfield, kept the visitors on the back foot.

Despite Rangers’ dominance, Bayelsa United’s defense, particularly goalkeeper Elkanah Godgift, initially held strong, making several key saves. However, the breakthrough came in the 41st minute when Godwin Obaje, assisted by Okorie Chiedozie, capitalized on a precise pass from Isaac Saviour to score the opening goal, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

This victory keeps Rangers at the top of the league with 60 points from 33 matches, boasting 18 wins, 6 draws, and 9 losses, with 49 goals scored and 31 conceded. Enyimba remains in close pursuit with 56 points.

Post-match, coach Fidelis Ilechukwu praised his team’s performance but emphasized the need to capitalize on more scoring opportunities. He acknowledged Bayelsa United’s challenge but credited his team’s preparation and determination for the win. Looking ahead, Ilechukwu stressed the importance of treating each remaining match like a final as the season intensifies.
