Oyo, Nigeria – In a shocking turn of events at Ajayi Crowther University (ACU), a student has lost his life after being brutally beaten by fellow students over allegations of mobile phone theft.

The incident occurred late Friday night when the students discovered that one of their peers had allegedly stolen a phone and transferred money from the owner’s account. A source within the university, speaking anonymously, revealed that the altercation began around 10 p.m. and escalated rapidly. Video footage reviewed by reporters shows a male student attacking the accused while others encouraged the beating.

The victim was expelled from the hostel later that evening, only to be found dead early Saturday. The university’s administration responded quickly, expelling the students involved and handing them over to police for investigation.

In an official statement, ACU’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Femi Atoyebi, refuted claims that the attackers were part of a secret cult, emphasizing the university’s strict no-cult policy. Atoyebi expressed the institution’s deep regret over the incident, highlighting that the situation could have been handled by university authorities rather than through violent means.

“The university remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring a safe, conducive, peaceful, and godly atmosphere for learning,” Atoyebi assured, promising that justice would be served.
