The football fans in the University town of Nsukka, Enugu State, Friday, September 30, was full of excitement when Udi Local Government and Ezeagu Local Government teams captured their imagination in their 90 minutes duel at Santiago Bernabeu, Nsukka High School, Stadium, Nsukka.

It was the week 3 stage of the on-going Save Enugu State Now Movement (S-E-S-N- M) unity cup tournament sponsored by the 2023 African Democratic Congress {ADC) governorship flag-bearer, His Excellency, Pastor Donatus Obi Ozoemena, who many described as an “eloquent scholar, erudite leader, technocrat, insurmountable philanthropist”.

Fans agreed that the football artistry displayed by the two teams was superlative, industrious and littered with moments of quality.

The Coach Anistar Starplus Alex Ferguson boys from Udi LG were dominant in in all departments of the game as the quartet of Oruruo Izuchukwu, Ukenye Cisse, Agu Chidubem, and Pius Chidera Haaland were real tormentors in their opponents half of the pitch.

The deadly strikers coordinated beautifully from their build up to tear the defence of Ezeagu LG into shreds.

The cohesion of the Udi LG strikers yielded fruit in the 16th minute of the first half when Izuchukwu in a hat-trick put his side ahead during a goal mouth scramble.

Udi LG boys dominated proceedings in all the departments in the pitch during the first half and it yielded dividends as Udi scored their second goal in quick succession following an incisive team move.

What look like an opening of a harvest of goals came when deadly striker Chidera Pius Haaland further inflicted damage to Ezeagu boys with a third goal at 45th minute increasing the tally to 3-0, ending the first half in favour of Udi squad.

The goals did not come again eventually as the second half saw both sides working hard to make amend on their shortcomings at half time. They played with caution which led to the drought of goals.

It was a total different game as players of the teams held the ball at the mid-field with occasional counter attack to each side. But not for the brilliant saves by goalkeeper Nwankwo, more goals would have gone into Ezeagu”s net before full time.

The Center referee Howard Webb blew the final whistle at exactly 90th minute of play, signalling the end of the game with Udi 3, Ezeagu 0, a disappointing outing for Coach flexy Pep Guardiola.

Speaking after the game, the captains of the two teams as well as their coaches in separate interviews acknowledged the efforts of the sponsor of the tournament in promoting sports in the Enugu State, adding that he has impacted positively in the lives of the youths whom he said are now showcasing their hidden talents.

Hon. Ajibo Sam Oluchi (S-E-S-N-M Enugu North Senatorial Zonal Coordinating Chairman)/S-E-S-N-M Nsukka LG Coordinator,
also poured encomium on the ADC governorship candidate, saying his philanthropism is unparalleled

He prayed that he succeeds in 2023 gubernatorial poll, pointing out that the people of Enugu State need a leader like him.

Also speaking, Rt. Hon. Okafor Onyeka Cyndia, Personal Assistant to the ADC governorship flag-bearer, His Excellency Pastor Obi, said he was overwhelmed with the smooth organisation of the tournament, adding that kudos should be given to the sponsor who he said had spent so much for the less privileged in the society.

Can Enugu State be rated amongst the top 5 best states in Nigeria to live in? Can Enugu State be free from virus of political quagmires?
