Stakeholders of I gbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State, under the umbrella of the Gburu-Gburu Movement, Thursday, distributed food items and disinfectants to the needy in the area. The event took place at the council headquarters, Ogrute.
Our correspondent reports that two lorry load of food items, including tubers of yam, maize, rice, beans, Bestie noodles, Solive vegetable oil, semovita/wheat and over 500 bottles of sanitizers were distributed to the thirty-five autonomous communities in the area.
The member representing Udenu/Igbo-Eze North Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Engr Atigwe Simon, thanked his co-donors for the gesture, and advised his people to comply with the Covid-19 lockdown as ordered by the state government aimed at curtailing the spread of the pandemic.
According to him, “Coronavirus is real and kills. Observe regular washing of hands with running water and sanitizers; keep social distancing, close your faces with face masks, and avoid crowded places as directed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control.”
The chairman of Igbo-Eze North LGA, Engr Ejike Williams Itodo, commended the stakeholders and other individuals for their generosity, and called on the residents of the area to observe all the preventive .measures by health authorities and governments to avert the spread of the pandemic.
He said, “I charge all the community leaders, such as traditional rulers, presidents general, neighbourhood watch groups and youth leaders to ensure judicious distributions of the palliatives to the targeted people.”
The coordinator of all presidents general of town unions in Igbo-Eze North LGA, represented by Nze Onah Christopher, from Onicha, Enugu-Ezike, thanked the donors for their supports and assured of compliance to the preventive measures against the spread.
