The former Nigeria vice President, Atiku Abubakar has commiserated with the family of late Doctor Emeka Chugbo who was exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19 and died at the Lagos state University Teaching Hospital on 15/04/2020.
Late Dr. Chugbo Emeka was a Private Medical Practitioner who handled a patient that later turned out to be someone with confirmed case of covid19.
Atiku wrote “I commiserate with NMA over the death of Dr Emeka Chugbo and Dr Aliyu Yakubu. The deceased cases reinforce the need to intensify the supply of all necessities, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect medical personnel”
“When we lose critical medical personnel in the frontline, we inadvertently compromise the fight against COVID19”.
Meanwhile, the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has also announced the death of Chugbo Emeka, and emphasized that the doctor died on Wednesday, after being exposed to a COVID-19 patient at his private clinic”.
They wrote, thus; “NMA LAGOS regrets to announce the death of Dr. Chugbo Emeka at the LUTH isolation ward. He died on 15/04/2020.He was a Private Medical Practitioner who was exposed to a confirmed case of COVID-19”.
“We condole with his family and d medical community for this painful loss”.
