Nigerian Medical Association has warned the state governments that authorized observance of Jumat prayers and Easter Sunday services in their state.
The warning came at the early hours of today in a statement signed by the President, Nigerian Medical Association, Doctor Francis A Faduyile and Secretary General of the Association, Doctor Olumuyiwa P. Odusote.
According to the statement the doctors countered some recommendations and twist of decisions made by some states in the social distancing order and stay at home issued by the federal government.
According to the NMA statement, the declaration by the Cross River State that social distancing is not needed while wearing a face mask.
“the warned against relaxation of the lockdown to allow mass gathering in mosques and churches starting from Friday to Sunday in Rivers State ” “the lifting of the ban Friday prayers by Katsina and Kogi State Governments as well as the similar orders in Ondo, Ebonyi and IMO states.
NMA appreciates the prime place of religion in our national lives and espacailly the value Christians place on Easter but insisted that there is now the evidence of Community transmission of Covid19 as such, any relaxation of guideline that promote mass gathering in any part of Nigeria can heighten and not flatten the curve of transmission dynamics.
They called on all relevant authorities to rescind their decision in the interest of safety of lives and implore the Nigeria Police as well as other security agencies to ensure that such gathering do not take place.
